If you have recently treated a tooth with a root canal treatment, then you’re on your way toward a top-notch tooth, smile and oral health once again! However, that’s only the case if you take the recovery period seriously. Failing to properly recover can cause complications and can delay the healing process. Our dentists, Dr. Llavona & Dr. Oliver, would like to help you recover after root canal treatment by encouraging you to do the following things:

-Manage your pain: Your mouth will be numb after treatment, but once the numbness wears away, you might feel some discomfort in the treated tooth. You can dull or eliminate the discomfort by taking the prescribed medications your dentist provided or by taking over-the-counter pain medications. You can also use an ice pack to reduce pain and swelling.

-Clean the area: It’s recommended to brush twice a day and floss daily, just like you normally would, to keep the surgical site clean and free of infection.

-Schedule your dental crown appointment: Typically, a dental crown is needed to restore your tooth and provide full function and stability after treatment. So, make sure to schedule your dental crown appointment as soon as you can. Until your appointment, please avoid using your treated tooth as much as you can.
